As long as I can remember, I have always found ways to teach and mentor. On this page you can see paper projects as well hands on learning projects (we do have fun). I’m so proud of all of my students.

Make something from the 12th century day: We start by looking closely at primary sources, then the students work in small groups using paper, muslin, tape, staples, safety pins and markers to create 12th century underwear (braies), shoes (pigache), hats (liripipes and wimples) and shirts (cotes). Students discover how the clothes they have been studying actually work and how the clothing might  inform an actor’s movements. (Can you find the 13th century hat that snuck in? It’s a 12th century hat that is turned upside down and stuffed!)

Student sketches and research boards:

Transformations : Students use one item of clothing to create two characters. This was a fun at home project that started during COVID and then stuck around! (more coming soon)

In class drawing and painting from garments. Whenever possible, we look at garments or costumes from the time period we are studying.

Fiber Identification - burn testing!

Sewing students of all ages! I have literally taught every age of sewists. Making something with your own hands is so rewarding.
